Plans to build major industrial development that will create hundreds of jobs get the green light

Plans to build a major warehousing, distribution and industrial development which has the potential to create hundreds of new jobs in Southampton are set to be approved, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

The developer, Evander Properties is seeking planning permission to construct three buildings, totalling about 205,000 sq ft of space, on a vacant site west of the M271, Test Lane. The scheme would also include 224 car parking spaces, 35 lorry delivery dock spaces and vehicular access and could potentially operate on a 24-hour basis, generating around 750 jobs.

Despite of the fact that residents raised concerns about the proximity of the proposed development to neighbouring residential housing, as well as fears over excessive traffic, pollution and the negative effect on local house prices, planning officers said the impact the development would have on the surrounding area can be mitigated by Section 106 obligations and conditions.
