Plans submitted for office redevelopment in Brighton
Plans have been submitted for the residential redevelopment of an office block close to Brighton’s seafront, a news report in the local media has been able to find.
Acting on behalf of Lan Estates, Yelo Architects is seeking permission to change of use of the upper floors of 11-13 Ship Street from office to residential.
Approval is also sought for the erection of a four-storey rear extension, providing office space at ground floor and further residential uses above. A new office block at the rear of the site is also proposed.
The completed scheme will create six residential units in place of the existing commercial space and provide about 1,850 sq ft of office accommodation in the new space. The existing front facade of the building would be altered to fit into the street scene, with the current butterfly roof to be replaced with a mansard roof. The facade will be renovated using materials that match the existing.
A new gate providing access to the new build will be the only deviation from the traditional materials, and will feature a gold aluminium cladding design.
The façade of the new extension is informed by the site’s history, with red brick and gold aluminium cladding planned.
