Larger premises and higher staff numbers for Aylesford-based TPS Global Logistics

Aylesford-based freight and logistics company TPS Global Logistics has received a funding package worth £600,000. With this money, they are moving into new, larger premises and hiring 20 members of staff (an almost 50% increase in numbers).

£400,000 of the funding came from Santander Business Banking, and the MacQuarie Group provided the remaining £200,000.

The larger premises and higher staff numbers will let TPS Global Logistics deal more efficiently with their growing business demand.

Increase in demand is something that TPS Global Logistics is very used to. It started in 2003, but over the last 5 years its revenue growth has increased by 600% and its staff numbers have increased from 26 to 42. It works with a number of specialist industries including beauty, cosmetics, retail, e-commerce, IT and telecoms.

In 2018 the business won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its international trade achievements.

Matt Smith, managing director at TPS Global Logistics, said: "Our business has grown substantially over the last five years, and we hope to be able to service more industries and reach even more markets as a result of our new facilities and expanded team."

Matt Holloway, relationship director at Santander Business Banking, added: "TPS Logistics has seen fantastic success and it is an exciting time to work with them as they grow the business.

"In the 15 years since it was founded, the business has expanded from a small domestic logistics company in the UK to an international business; and we are excited to see what is next for them."

It can be difficult for managers to spot incorrect working hours by themselves if they are in a new building and don’t recognise their new staff. Therefore, when there is an expansion of both working space and employee numbers it is important that business make sure their time and attendance systems can deal with the challenge in the most successful way possible.

Old-fashioned clocking in and out systems such as punch time clocks or paper timesheets are prone to “buddy punching”, where employees fraudulently record their or another employee’s working time. Even computer-based systems may not be safe, as employees could swap log-in details.

The best method of attendance management is biometric clocking in and out.  It is much more difficult to fool biometric stations, requiring advanced knowledge and technology as opposed to just swapping information.

At Time and Attendance South East we sell fingerprint scanners and hand scanners for biometric time and attendance management.

The HSCAN Hand Scanner Terminal Series is built around the concept of hand geometry biometric technology. The terminal captures an image of the hand each time the employee punches. The hand’s size and the shape are used to verify their identity with unparalleled accuracy. No finger or palm prints are utilized.

The technology works well indoor as well as in harsh environments. It contains a silver-based anti-microbial agent which inhibits the growth of a broad spectrum of bacteria, mould, and fungi for the life of the system.

Tensor T34xx Series Biometric Fingerprint Reader converts the image of the patterns usually found on one’s fingertip into a code through a secure algorithm, which is then stored on a database for future comparison and authentication.

Whenever registered users have their fingerprints scanned, a comparison is made between the live fingerprint and the stored fingerprint template and if the two match, the event is saved in the Time and Attendance controller database.

The software used for this is the flagship WinTA.NET. Not only does it have the capability to give you detailed information and email warnings about any absenteeism and lateness, but you can also enter multiple different working patterns, shifts and rotas for different employees so that even the most irregular working time can be tracked perfectly. WinTA.NET can also manage attendance using information from smartcards as well as biometric clock-ins.
