CAE Training and Services UK to expand into new flight training facility

A planning application for a new flight training facility at Manor Royal Business District in Crawley has been recommended for approval.

CAE Training and Services UK, a flight trainer for the civil aviation, defence and security markets, has put in plans to change Diamond Point, a vacant warehouse, into a flight training facility and to add 51,500 square feet of space for classrooms, briefing space and toilets.

The ground floor of the new premises would hold seventeen full height flight simulators, one fixed base simulator, training areas, offices and a canteen. The location is beneficial (near Gatwick airport) and the plans would result in 36 jobs becoming available if the plans are approved.

The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions.

The training facility, which would support an additional 36 jobs in Manor Royal, is located close to Gatwick Airport

According to a report set to be scrutinised next week by Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee, it is considered that the proposed use is complementary to the main employment function of the Manor Royal district, which supports the business needs of Gatwick Airport.

Most premises which have more than one use and will attract different people for different reasons, such as the projected flight training centre with its classrooms, training offices, canteen and more, still use paper visitor books and plastic visitor badges to sign new people in and out of the premises.

Paper time and attendance/access control monitoring is inefficient and prone to errors. There are also potential problems with unprotected data (anyone can leaf through previous entries in the sign-in-book) and the security/health and safety concern of people forgetting to sign out after their visit, and the eternal receptionist struggle to read visitors’ handwriting.

At Time and Attendance South East we have the perfect visitor management solution: our Management of Contractors and Visitors Software (MCVS). This web-based application allows you to book visitor and contractor appointments in advance. Once appointments are booked, both parties receive a notification email with the details.

If the appointment is for a visitor or contractor who needs to go around alone, our MCVS provides a Welfare Check page to set up welfare notification reminders. These reminders (an on screen popup or an email) prompt the host to perform a safety check on the lone worker.
This means that you are kept up to date and there can be no ambiguity about location. A history of checks performed and acknowledged is also recorded for audit purposes.

If our visitor management system is integrated with an access control system, companies can control exactly where visitors can go, eliminating the chance of them wandering accidentally into high-security areas.
