CAE Training and Services UK, a flight trainer for the civil aviation, defence and security markets, has put in plans to change Diamond Point, a vacant warehouse, into a flight training facility and to add 51,500 square feet of space for classrooms, briefing space and toilets. 

 

The ground floor of the new premises would hold seventeen full height flight simulators, one fixed base simulator, training areas, offices and a canteen. The location is beneficial (near Gatwick airport) and the plans would result in 36 jobs becoming available if the plans are approved.

 

The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions.

According to a report set to be scrutinised next week by Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee, it is considered that the proposed use is complementary to the main employment function of the Manor Royal district, which supports the business needs of Gatwick Airport.

Most premises which have more than one use and will attract different people for different reasons, such as the projected flight training centre with its classrooms, training offices, canteen and more, still use paper visitor books and plastic visitor badges to sign new people in and out of the premises.
