The Slough Trading Estate grows by 3 companies from different sectors

The Slough Trading Estate will provide premises for three more businesses, after new deals were agreed.

Companies who are currently situated on the estate include Mars, Telefonica O2, Ferrari, UK Mail, Lanes Group and UCB. The estate is owned by property investment and development company SERGO, who develop “edge of town flexible business space” throughout the UK and Central Europe.

The incoming companies are:

Allen Ford Group, which supplies Ford vehicles. They will be moving into a warehouse and a light industrial unit on Bedford Avenue on a 15-year lease, and will trade under the name SMC Ltd.

Click Print, a provider of commercial print services, which is taking a 7,500 sq ft unit on Yeovil Road

A&G Communications, an IT and telecommunications specialist which has taken a warehouse unit on Montrose Avenue.

Paul Lewis, regional director for Thames Valley and data centres at SEGRO, said: "Slough Trading Estate has continued to attract new companies throughout this year, with its appeal to businesses across a whole range of sectors showing no signs of diminishing.

"Indeed, these latest lettings represent a perfect example of the breadth of customers who make up our business community."

Moving into a new building is the perfect time to assess your current payroll system, specifically the way that you record employee attendance and their hours worked.

Many companies, even in today’s high-tech world, still use weekly paper timesheets to record employee working hours. These have more downsides than they have advantages.

For example, they are very easy for an unscrupulous employee to fake. If there is no way of monitoring their attendance apart from their own self-reporting, then they can easily put in overtime or prime time shifts that they didn’t actually do.

Even an honest employee could forget exact details and fudge an entry. Inaccurate working hours could put you at risk of breaching the European Working Time Regulations.

Another example is the incredible amount of processing time that timesheets can cost payroll staff. They need to transfer often illegible handwriting individually onto Excel spreadsheets in order to convert it into data they can deal with for payroll. One typo could completely change an employee’s payslip for that month.
