Luxury car maker to create 500 new jobs as part of £1bn investment programme

An iconic luxury car manufacturer has has laid out an ambitious £1bn investment programme to produce up to 15 new models and recruit 500 staff, a news source can reveal.

The "Track 22" business plan unveiled by Surrey-based McLaren Automotive includes an investment of £1bn in research and development over the next six years to 2022. This would lead to the creation of 15 all-new models, half of which will feature hybrid engine technology, not to mention the addition of a large number of new members of staff.

Chief executive Mike Flewitt said: "The launch of our new six-year business plan, named Track22 because I believe that we are on track to a very exciting and successful future, scopes our future investments and development strategy up until 2022.

"This will see us launch 15 all-new cars or derivatives within our existing Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series families. We will also develop an all-new engine architecture that will debut towards the end of the business plan period."

He added: "Above all, this business plan confirms that McLaren Automotive will remain proudly and fiercely independent by continuing to build the world’s finest two-seater sports and supercars, hand-crafted by our team in Woking, England."
