Plans for 400-home development scheme in Kent set for approval
Plans put forward by a residential developer for building up to 400 homes on a 75-acre countryside site south of Whitstable in Kent are set to receive conditional approval, a news report in the local business media has been able to find.
The developer, Devine Homes, revealed that housing will be provided through a mixture of flats and houses and a combination of market housing and affordable housing.
The developer is also proposing to retain about 37 acres of land as open space for the community.
A report set to be discussed by Canterbury City Council planners tomorrow (2 February) has recommended the scheme for approval subject to a Section 106 legal agreement and "appropriate safeguarding conditions".
"The development as proposed would deliver a high quality residential development in this sustainable edge of town centre location," planning officers said in the report.
"It would make a significant contribution towards meeting housing targets for new homes, including affordable housing, built to appropriate standards. In addition, despite the loss of existing countryside/agricultural land, the proposal would provide significant new open spaces and ecological enhancements, both on and off the built development area, which would provide recreational, community and biodiversity benefits."
