Plans submitted for major mixed-use urban development in Kent
Plans for a major mixed-use development including hundreds of new homes on the outskirts of Canterbury has been submitted to the city council, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
Iceni Projects, on behalf of Environ Design (Sturry) Ltd, is seeking outline planning permission to develop up to 700 new houses, a primary school, medical hub and community building on 140 acres of land at Sturry.
The application site is located to the north west of Sturry Railway Station and approximately 2.3 miles north east of Canterbury city centre. The southern part of the site comprises open fields, with much of the northern and central part of the site covered by ancient and non-ancient woodland, commonly known as Den Grove Wood.
The proposal also includes a public car park to serve the railway station, along with associated access, parking, amenity space and landscaping.
Environ Design is also hoping to secure detailed planning consent to construct part of the Sturry Link Road, as well as a local link road connecting it to Shalloak Road.
In documents lodged with Canterbury City Council, the company said its vision for the Sturry scheme is to create "a new and vibrant sustainable extension", which will deliver much-needed housing and education facilities in the district.
