Thames Valley Police finally purchase new HQ building in Reading
Atlantic House, a large building close to junction 11 of the M4 motorway, has been bought by the Thames Valley Police for £8.25m.
Thames Valley Police has been searching for a new building since 2012. Their existing premises in Reading city centre, where they have been for the past 40 years, is expensive to maintain, and unnecessarily large.
"The search for a property that meets Thames Valley Police’s needs has been ongoing over a number of years so it is good news to have exchanged contracts on Atlantic House," said Anthony Stansfeld, Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley.
"The move to a new location has become a necessity as the existing building is no longer fit for purpose and costly to maintain."
Clearbell Capital director Duncan Jarvis added: "Atlantic House offers improved accessibility and parking for the Thames Valley Police and is an ideal new area headquarters located opposite the new retail and leisure Reading Gateway site and close to Junction 11 of the M4."

Moving into a new building is the perfect time to assess your current payroll and HR systems, particularly the way that you record employee attendance and their hours worked. This is even more relevant since the European Union Court of Justice has recently ruled that EU members should order businesses to keep records of the exact hours worked by their full-time employees, in order to fully comply with the requirements of the Working Time Regulations.
Many companies, even in today’s high-tech world, still use weekly paper timesheets to record employee working hours. These have more downsides than they have advantages, despite often being considered the cheapest time and attendance option.
For example, they are very easy for an unscrupulous employee to fake. If there is no way of monitoring their attendance apart from their own self-reporting, then they can easily put in overtime or prime time shifts that they didn’t actually do.
Even an honest employee could forget exact details and fudge an entry. Inaccurate working hours could put you at risk of breaching the European Working Time Regulations.
Another example is the incredible amount of processing time that timesheets can cost payroll staff. They need to transfer often illegible handwriting individually onto Excel spreadsheets in order to convert it into data they can deal with for payroll. One typo could completely change an employee’s payslip for that month.
